A friend of a friend has an expression that is eternally useful: “Make them accept it.” 

Apparently, this individual applies his phrase indiscriminately, toward animate and inanimate objects alike. “You will accept this plug!” he cries to a stubborn outlet that hesitates to accept a laptop charger. Since picking up the phrase, I have found its usefulness to be without limits.

The water and electricity are inextricably linked. For instance, a water-saving policy recommendation suggested by an academic in Oman includes establishing an electricity quota system to indirectly restrict the amount of water that farmers can pump from their well (if you can only turn on your pump so many hours out of the day, this would be a drastic water saving measure).

كنت أقرأ هذا الاسبوع عن القبائل في عُمان و تحويل هذا النظام الاجتماعي منذ نفوذ الثروة النفطية و سلطة السلطان قابوس من حوالي 1970. و أصبحت هذه المقارنة بين الحضر و البدو ملموسة عندما ذهبتُ إلى الشرقية خلال العيد و زارتُ بعض الاماكن التي تجرب التغييرات في الوقت الحاضر.
