One of my first trips within Oman was down to Salalah where I viewed rolling green mountains, blow holes, and frankincense trees thriving during the wet khareef season. I soon learned miraculous uses for the South's ancient incense: smoking out insects from a house, purifying clothing from foul smells, and the water extracted from the tree was even being sold for its curative properties. People do not take this plant lightly.
While I take most advice I receive here with a grain of salt, frankincense begs a second look. The BBC reports that extracts from this historic product of Oman's trade may in fact stop the spread of cancer. Yet, I hope that no Omanis read this report because the price of frankincense will skyrocket and every Omani will be amping up their already frequent use for the incense, regardless of their health! I await medical confirmaiton in the meanwhile.
