ندوة المرأة العمانية, الجزء الاول: Symposium on the Omani Woman, Part I

حضرت امسية امس و يوم السبت ندوة المرأة العمانية في مسقط, احدى فعاليات هذه السنة سعى إلى مناقشة دور المرأة في المجتمع و مستقبلها و دورها المرغوب. بالإضافة الى تقديري للفعالية كمناسبة تسليط الضوء على أفكار و آراء و طموحات النساء, استخدمتُ الليلتين لممارسة فهمي الاستماع لأن كان المؤتمر باللغة العربية. هكذا, ليس لدي كل التفاصيل من العروض, بل الصورة العامة بفهم كاف. بعد الليلتين الطويلتين, عندي افكار كثيرة عن حالة قضاية المرأة العمانية و أيضا عن مستوى التقديمات من الندوة و لذلك اقترحات للنساء الناشطات في المستقبل.

Yesterday evening and Saturday I attended the Symposium on the Omani Woman in Muscat, one of the events of this year striving to discuss the role of the woman in society and her future and desired role. In addition to appreciating this event as an occasion shedding light on the ideas, opinions, and ambitions of women, I used the two nights to practice my listening comprehension because the conference was held in Arabic. Therefore, I don’t have all of the details from the presentations, but the general picture and a sufficient comprehension. After the two long nights, I have many ideas on the status of the Omani Woman cause and also on the level of the presentations from the symposium and therefore suggestions for active women in the future.

اولاً, لا بد أن أقول, هذه الندوة كانت مهمة لاسباب عديدة, بما فيها مساهمتها الى تطور المجتمع المدني, و تعزيز قدرة المرأة في شرح موقعها في المجتمع امام الجمهور, و مشاهدة تأييد الرجال للقضاية في الكلام و الدراسة في مستوى الدكتورا و ما إلى ذلك. و دُعمت كل هذه الجهود من جانب المنظمة غير الحكومية العمانية "تواصل" و المنظمة الدولية "اليونيسيف" لغرض ترويج الجدول في هذه الدولة العصرية و التقليدية في نفس الوقت.

First, I must say, this symposium was important for numerous reasons, including her contribution to the development of civil society, strengthening the ability of a woman to explain her position in society in front of the audience, and watching the men’s support for the cause in speech and studies at the Doctorate level, and so forth. And all of these individual efforts were supported by the Omani non-governmental organization Tawasul and the international organization UNICEF, to the end of promoting the debate in this country that is both modern and traditional at the same time.

تتراوح مواضيع العروض من الصحة و المرأة (مع الصور الاستفزازية تصوير السرطان الثدي) إلى المرأة و حقوقها و القوانين, و المرأة و السياسة, فضلا عن المرأة و أتفاقية "سيدوا." كان ظاهراً بأن كل مرأة التي قدمت كانت عاطفية, متحمسة في تخصصها. ليست النساء من نفس الفئة العمرية إنّما في مرأة في أوائل العشرينات, و أخرى في أواخر العشرينات من عمرها بالأضافة الى النساء من, ما نمكن أن نسمي "الجيل السابق." و بالرغم من "الجيل السابق" موجود في الانشطة العمانية و عند نساؤها التجربة الواسعة, ولدت هذه النساء قبل النهضة او في بداية التطورات, و لذلك عندها وجهة نظر مختلفة من الجيل الحاضر. أكثر غداً...

Presentation topics ranged from health and the woman (with provocative pictures depicting breast cancer) to the woman and women’s rights and laws, the woman and politics, as well as the woman and the CEDAW convention. It was apparent that each woman that presented was passionate about her specialization. The women were not from the same age range but rather there were women in their early twenties, others in their late twenties, in addition to women from what we might call the former generation. Although the former generation is present in Omani activities and these women have wide experience, they were born before the Nahda (renaissance) or during the beginning of the development, so they have a different point of view from the present generation.
